Philippines to Open Its Door Further to ICT Investment

Morales May 26 -The Philippines has presented its marketing pitch during the CommunicAsia 2017 Summit, the region’s largest ICT event held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore recently. Philippine ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales (picture) launched the pitch by revealing that the Philippines GDP grew by 6.8% in 2016, one of the fastest in Asia.


He was supported at the event by Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Singapore commercial counselor Glenn G. Penaranda, who cited the country’s young workforce, with a median age being 23.4 years old, as one of the country’s major value propositions. Another is the country’s rich talent pool, consisting of English speaking, highly-educated, customer-oriented, and highly trainable workers who can easily adapt to a universal culture.

 

UK to Host Global Outsourcing Expo

May 26 – International outsourcing companies are expected to gather in London in October for the inaugural Outsourcing Expo. The Outsourcing Expo will provide a platform for outsourcing companies to display their products and services, according to Paul Harwood, managing director of the event organiser, Westrade Group.

 

The expo welcomes exhibitors and participants from a diverse range of industries, including call centre, data management / CRM systems, IT infrastructure, law firms, and telecommunications companies. The two-day exhibition will be complemented by a top-quality conference program supported by the industry’s leading trade associations.

 

 

 

 

K to12 to Sustain Manpower Demand in BPOs

Gregg Gabison, president of CIB.O (Cebu IT/BPM Organization) May 25 – Gregg Gabison, president of CIB.O (Cebu IT/BPM Organization) disclosed that the implementation of the K to 12 educational system in the Philippines will likely address the growing demand of the business process outsourcing industry.

 

Gabison said that their group is taking advantage of the K to 12 methodology, citing that CIB.O will work closely with the academe sector to help introduce specialization tracks that suit the requirement of the outsourcing sector. CIB.O’s direction coincides with the Department of Information, Communication and Technology’s (DICT) goal in utilizing K to 12 students to fill in the shortage of manpower in the IT-BPO sector.

Cebu Digital Innovation Summit Set

May 24 – The Cebu Digital Summit will be one of the highlights of this year’s Cebu Business Month celebration, according to the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The two-day summit, which will gather representatives from the business sector, academe, information and communications technology (ICT) sectors, local government units and non-governmental organizations, will take place on 2-3 June at the Summit Galleria Cebu.

 

The gathering offers an opportunity for its participants to learn, interact, network and collaborate for the continuous growth of the industry on a national scale. The month-long Cebu Business Month celebration will also highlight the newly organized Innovation Council of Cebu, which is envisioned to seek, cultivate, sustain and promote Cebu as an Innovation Island through adaptive education and ICT-based advocacy.

 

 

 

BPOs Boost Demand for Luxury Condos in Cebu – Colliers

May 23 – Colliers International, a property and research firm, has revealed that Cebu continues to attract high-ranking local and foreign executives employed by top  business outsourcing companies and industrial firms.

 

The outsourcing sector’s contribution to total demand for luxury condos should be sustained by the continued inflow of foreign outsourcing investments into the city, the report said. The same report noted that high-end units like those in Cebu Business Park, Cebu I.T. Park, and Mactan Newtown continue to enjoy low vacancies and stable growth in lease rates.
